Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources

The Augusta R. Kolwyck Library provides computers to support the educational
mission of the library. Computer users should comply with this policy and
the following:
Chattanooga State students, faculty and staff who are doing college-related
research have priority in using library computers. Library staff
may ask persons not doing college-related research to yield those computers.
The
Chattanooga State 2003-2004 Student Handbook and Calendar,
"Acts of Misconduct: Misuse of computers" (p.
54) states the College's policy regarding use of computers:
Unauthorized
or inappropriate use of computers is prohibited. Such use includes, but is not
limited to, damaging or altering records or programs; furnishing false
information; invading the privacy of another user by using files, programs or
data without authorization; engaging in disruptive, harassing and annoying
behavior; and any unauthorized use of computer hardware, software, accounts,
passwords or keywords. The full text of the Chattanooga State
Information Technology Responsible Use Policy and the TBR/TEC Net Acceptable
Use Policy can be obtained from the Chattanooga State Web site and in the
Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
"Unauthorized or inappropriate use of computers is prohibited"
in the library. Such use includes, but is not limited
to the following:

Viewing obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive material

"Posting or sending obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive
material"

Altering computer settings
-
Putting any files or software on the computer hard drives

Modifying the hard drives
-
Modifying system files
-
Violating copyright laws
Library staff may ask any person to cease using library computers
inappropriately and will contact College Security if inappropriate
use persists. Continued violation of the acceptable use of library computers
may lead to disciplinary action under College regulations.
The library does not monitor or control the information accessed through
the Internet. The library does not assume responsibility for content
found on the Internet.
LOCAL GUIDELINES

Use of computer workstations when others are waiting may be limited to
20 minutes.

Printing should be limited to 25 pages.

Patrons can bring formatted floppy disks and download files to them.

The library staff may impose other limits as situations require.
