4.    How did having a laptop change what you carried to school each day?

        - I carried the laptop.  Nothing else changed.
        - it gave me more to carry
        - Having more weight to carry, made me purchase a rolling luggage carrier.
        - I chose to bring my textbooks to class less frequently, and eventually not at all.
        - I carried my backpack with all my books, my purse, and my laptop.  It was a very heavy load.
        - it didn't change anything except there was another thing to carry
        - I had to stop carrying my purse because I had to carry the laptop and my bookbag.
        - Although the laptop was heavy it was very useful.
        - The lap top did not change what I carried to school.
        - I brought less textbooks.
        - It made it about 15 ponds heavier.  My shoulders hurt.
        - No
        - I stopped carrying the laptop to school because it was too heavy, so it didn't change what I carried to school.
        - I began carrying my laptop to school everyday in addition to my backpack.
        - On days that I had my honors class, I had to carry a lot more stuff.  Everything I carries weighed as much as I do.
        - Let's just say shoulder surgery.
        - I had to carry all of my books plus the computer.
        - It made what I carried much heavier.
        - i stopped carrying a notebook with paper, which made me feel environmentally friendly. i took notes for all my classes on the laptop, and emailed papers to my teachers, instead of printing several drafts.
        - I only carried my laptop during my C++ classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Otherwise, I used it at home and other areas condusive to a study environment.
        - increased weight by about 20 pounds
        - I had to leave things in my car, and go back in between class's.
        - less papers
        - stored materials were all together, and available
        - a heavy load
        - only bad thing about it was the agony on my shoulders and back.   But it was worth it
        - It made it easier.  I used it as a backpack and a purse.  Most instructors do not use the books everyday.
        - It made it a lot heavier!!!
        - had to also carry the laptop
        - just laptop
        - It really was more difficult, The laptop is quite heavy and bulck It made it more difficult but I managed
        - prepared mor efficiently by leaving some books I would not need that day
        - I didn't ahve to carry a load of 12 books and break my back it was all combined on the net
        - about 10 lbs. heavier  ;]
        - I had an extra bag.
        - It reduced what I would bring because it was heavy
        - I had to carry a heavier lab.
        - You need better straps for the carrying cases.
        - added one bag
        - saved having to carry numerous reference books
        - sometimes it could be a pain because of the heavy load, but because of its resourcefullness, it made it well worth it!
        - extra luggage
        - It was the only thing I carried....there was no need for anything else.
        - i did not need notebooks i could do everything with my laptop
        - it kept my simple and organized
        - That was the only drawback. Caution to avoid possible damage reigned supreme
        - It wasn't heavy, just the worry of possible damage or wet conditions.
        - I carried more stuff on Tues. and Thurs.
        - It made everything a lot heavier and harder to deal with, but I still carried all of the books and papers that I carried before.
        - I still had to carry the same amount of books and supplies as usual because most of my classes were not laptop classes. But, I was able to better utilize the books, etc. for those classes also, by having access to the internet.
        - I only attended this semester at night.  Actually I carried more stuff - however, if I was a normal student I would have figured out a way to consolidate my handbag, my keys, and my class materials thus relieving the weight I drug around.
    - It made my load much heavier...   I had to carry more with the laptop, and it made my load much heavier
    - It did not, I rarely carried the laptop anywhere other than to class.
    - When I had my laptop, I had lots of things to carry with me.  This was difficult sometimes, but since I didn't bring it to school but one night a week, it was not much of a problem.

5.    Did you obtain insurance for the laptop (either homeowner's or a different policy)?

Thirty-nine (39) responded No:  (some students had additional comments)
        -  I take chances.
        -  I was extremely careful.
        -  I already had homeowner's insurance.
        -  just tried to be careful
        -  it was covered through my policy, but I believe that an insurance policy should be available for individuals to purchase if they do not have one available.

Seven (7) responded Yes:  (some students had additional comments)
        - It was a good thing that i did! my laptop was stolen, and if i had not had insurance i would not have been able to replace it.  i suggest that all students be strongly encouraged to spend the eighty or so dollars on renter's insurance; it covers everything, and in my opinion, with the laptops, you can't afford not to have it.
        - Homeowner's.
        - Renters.
        - Abolutely - I added a rider to my homeowners - I will now cancel it.
         - I had homeowner's insurance for the laptop.

6.    Did you already have a computer at home?

Eleven (11) responded No:  (some students had additional comments)
        - And this laptop will make sure that I never have one.
       - no, but there are several family members who have home computers, and there are many places downtown with
internet access.

Thirty-four (34) responded Yes:  (some students had additional comments)
        - Yes,until my computer was struck by lightening.
        -  but I couldn't use it
         - Yes, but we didn't have internet access.
         - When I purchased my computer, I called Chattanooga State and a purchased everything, that Chattanooga State
had on their computers.
        - A mac performa....word processor at best. This was a whole new world......
        - Yes, I have a nice PC which I let my daughter (a student at MTSU) take back to Murfreesboro with her this semester).  Now, I will have to purchase another form of computer system this fall for my Web Developer courses.

7.    Write any additional comments that will help us in evaluating and improving this project.

    - This was a wonderful experience for me, it enabled me to become more familiar with computers and learn how to integrate computers into the classrooom.  It enhanced my learning experience in and out of the classroom.  It allowed me to learn how to find information on the Web.
    - It would be more helpful to have the computers during finals.
    - We were glad to get the radio frequency cards, but it was sort of pointless because they weren't able to connect us to the internet when we were at home.
    - It would be better if we could access the inernet all over campus.
    - I don't want to talk about it.
    - It was an excellent tool, and I am grateful to the college for giving me access to it.
    - Bill Stifler was extremely helpful when using the computers.  He got us free ISPs, and taught us a lot oabout the general programs.
    - I thought every thing was fine it just made it a lot more to carry every day.
    - Students will usually load other computer applications related to the classes they're currently taking.  I found when trying to run some of the more complex software like C++ my computer would "lock up" and I would loose everything I had been working on.  This also happened when working in Maple V.  No one in the computer support lab could seem to figure out why this continued to happen.  It would have been very helpful if these applications were maybe researched to find potential issues a student my want to avoid if possible in using the program.  Especially, if the program is expected to be attained within the cirruculum on campus.
    - let us check them out for longer than the semester.
    - Make sure that all of the features work, so that things go smoothly in our class's rather than take up our class time trying to get things to work.
    - Keep it and get more of them for more students
    - I think once a honor student has a laptop he/she should be able to keep the laptop until they graduate.  I loved my laptop.  I actually thought it was mine.
    - I loved having the laptop. It helped me in a lot of classes and made working on projects at school during breaks easier.
    - I really enjoyed my laptop, had no real problems with them
    - everyone should have these things.i think...i know i made better grades b/c  of it.
    - Make this evaluation shorter, IT IS TOO LONG!!!
    - Floppy drive was highly unreliable. That may have only been my machine? I dunno.
    - The laptops need to come with more games!
    - The dells are a great computer, wonderful for all aspects of my different classes, not just the honors
program.  THANKYOU FOR GETTING THE LAUGH-TOPS OUT OF THE PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!
    - To have honors labtop classes in the summer.
    - the laptop program is excellent
    - I think that this project is a god-send and it should carry on.  For those who are dedicated and work hard, this is very helpful and well deserved.  It has been very beneficial for my learning process in Comp II/honors.
    - very successful, I really enjoyed using the laptop
    - KEEP IT GOING!!! It is a great asset to the students and the teachers.
    - have an option to buy it at the end
    - Every student should have this experience even if only for one semester.
    - The network needs work. It's nearly impossible to sign on to it when you need to.
    - The only thing i can see is to have more curriculum access the laptop use. I would like to be able to utilize the laptop for my entire course load. I am sure something like this will be available in the future, but I would like to see it implemented soon. And the availability of the laptops for all students.
    - Offer some form of property/loss insurance that students can afford to buy themselves as protection against loss.  You might consider selling the used lap tops to students as well when they become outdated - not all laptops can be upgraded.  Laptop instructors should think a little more globally and consider creating the class syllabus that unites the class and their assignments with another goup studying the same subject on another campus.  Not only can the students share their knowledge and experience, but can also learn other customs and ways of life.
    - Allowing students the privilage of retaining a laptop between semesters for personal use would be a great convieniance for some.
    - I can't think of anything.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students.

        - 3, Students will usually load other computer applications related to the classes they're currently taking.
