Assignments:

• Article Critiques:  After attending the lecture on one of the subjects below, students will write a critique of an article on that subject and explain how the article relates to information covered in class.  Articles must appear in approved nursing journals published between 2003 and 2007.  Cite them using the APA format for library databases.
  • Critique #1:  Ethical or legal issues in nursing. Search the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and other library journal article databases using keywords such as "nursing ethics," nursing and values, morals, code of ethics, negligence, professionalism, types of law, etc.  Follow the steps below.
  • Critique #2:  Manager of care.  Search CINAHL and other library journal article databases using keywords such as "nursing management," nursing and leadership, "leadership styles", responsibility, accountability, time management, etc. Follow the steps below.
• Nursing Care Plans:  Search CINAHL for "nursing care plans" and "wound care," "heart failure," pneumonia, and any topic for which you are developing a patient care plan.  Follow the steps below.

  Step 1:  Put the "List of Approved Nursing Journals" beside your computer.

  Step 2:  Go to the library homepage:  http://library.chattanoogastate.edu

  Step 3:  Scroll down to "Health" and click "CINAHL"

  Step 4:  Complete the items circled in red below:

Step 5:  Type your topic in the "Find" box and click "Search":

 

Step 6:  Look at your results.  How many articles were found below?  Were any of them in journals on the "approved list"?  How can you get articles that are fewer in number but more focused on a particular area of ethics?  What information do you need in article 1 for your citation?  How many pages in article 2?  Can you get the full text of article 1?  Can you email it to yourself?
