DH 270:  Advanced Dental Concepts

Assignment:      Students will locate sources for abstracting articles and for a brief paper on dental hygiene topics of the student's choice.   Topics will focus on current issues and trends.  Students may use the Internet and refereed professional medical-related journals as well as dental hygiene professional journals.  The Dental Hygiene Research Guide will give links to appropriate Internet sites.


Finding articles in 7 CSTCC dental journals using CINAHL:
    Go to library web site: http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/
    Click on "Reference Information."
    Scroll down and click on "OCLC FirstSearch (on campus only)."
    On the blue menu, click on "Searching - Advanced."
    Click on the "Search in:" drop-down menu and click on "CINAHL".
    Click on the "Search for:" drop-down menu labeled "keyword" and select "Source."
    Type the following:
                                asdc or dental or oral
                (This limits your search to journals in our library.)
    Type one or two words describing the topic in the next box. Think of alternate words to search.
                Example:    periodontal treatment
    Click "Search."

    Go to library web site: http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/
    Click on "Reference Information."
    Scroll down and click on "Health Reference Center."
    Click "Proceed."    (Ask the librarian for the password if you have Internet access at home)
    On the blue menu, click on "Advanced Search."
    Type in the entry box:
                                (jn dental) and
    Type one or two words describing the topic.  Think of alternate words to search.
                Example:   (jn dental) and anesthesia
    Click "Search."
    Scroll down to "History" and click on "View ... citations" to see references to articles.
 

Finding full-text articles in the Journal of Dental Hygiene using Health Reference Center (HRC):
    Go to library web site: http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/
    Click on "Reference Information."
    Scroll down and click on "Health Reference Center."
