Assignment:      Students will find articles on dental topics and give five-minute oral presentations.  Articles from refereed or peer-reviewed journals are preferred.  Topics include the following:

• Start your search with CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature)

  • The authoritative resource for nursing and allied health. Indexing for over 1,700 nursing and allied health journals and publications dating back to 1982, totaling over 961,000 records. Full-text of some articles is included.

  • "Refine Search" by checking "Full Text" and "Peer Reviewed."

• Continue your search with Health & Wellness Resource Center.  This database is good for searching Arestin, Atridox, etc.

Keyword searching:

    1.  "dental hygiene"
         Put quotes around a phrase.

    2.  dental and ergonomics
         Connect words with and if you want articles with both words.  They will not necessarily be adjacent to each other in articles.
        
    3.  hygien*  
         Put an asterisk at the end of a root word to find all words that begin with that root.   
         hygien* will find hygiene, hygienist, hygienists

    4.  dental hygien* and ergonomic*
         dental hygien* and  musculoskeletal disorder* 
         Combine phrase and word if appropriate.

Tips for getting better results:

1. Check the boxes labeled "Full Text" and "Peer Reviewed."
2. Search for a subject in CINAHL.  Click "CINAHL Headings" and type "dental" or type your topic.

 - In CINAHL, when searching the brand name, "Refine Search" by checking "Also search within the full text of the articles
