Use "Agent" to find books and articles in one search
Find Articles in Professional Journals
Find articles in professional journals using
CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing
and Allied Health Literature):
1. Tips for searching:
dent* will find dental, dentist, dentistry. Put an * after the part of a word to find all the words that begin with that root, including the plural form.
dent* and _____________ will find dental, etc., and the other term in the same article. Put and between words that you want to find in the same article.
"dental assistants" in quotes will find these 2 words next to each other. Put quotes around a phrase.
Examples:
a. dent* and laser*
b. dent* and implant*
c. "dental assistants"
d. "air abrasion" or air and abras*
e.
(tooth or teeth) and white*
f. dent* and cement*
g. dent* and "infection control"
h.
dent* and hipaa
i. dent* and
imag*
j. dent* and crown*
k. dent* and prosthe*
l. dent* and handpiece*
2. Type your keywords in
the search box.
3. Click the "Full Text" and "Peer Reviewed" boxes under the
"Refine Search tab.
4. Click "Search."
5. Read the summaries of the articles and select the
most appropriate.
6. Click the title of the article to read the text or to find
its location in the library.
7. E-mail the
articles to yourself.
8. Tips:
a. If you get few results,
eliminate some of the less important words.
Example: dental and
latex sensitivity (Eliminate sensitivity)
b. If you get many results, add
one important word to help focus your search.
c. If you
get irrelevant
articles, use different words.
d. Type in a root word and put an asterisk
(*) to search words with various endings (e.g., dent* will search for
dentist, dental, and dentistry)
Find articles and pamphlets using General OneFile
1. Click "Basic Search" on the blue menu.
2. Check the box labeled "to peer-reviewed publications."
3. Type your keywords in the box, using * to search words with various
endings.
Example:
dent* and steriliz*
(This retrieves articles with dental, dentist, etc., and sterilize,
sterilization, etc. in the titles or abstracts.)
4. Click
5. Select the the best articles and e-mail them to yourself
6. To find different articles, type alternative words or synonyms in the
search box.
Try Google Scholar to find
articles in professional journals:

"Scholar Preferences"
2. Click "English" by "Search Language"
3. Type "Chattanooga State" in the "Library Links" box.
4. Click the box by "Chattanooga State Technical Community College."
5. Click "Results Window - Open search results in a new browser window."
6. Click "Save Preferences."
7. Click
"Advanced Search."
8. Type 2000 to 2007 in the "Date" box.
9. Type your topic in the "Find Articles" box(es). Choose the boxes
carefully. You may put words in more than one box if that helps to focus
your search.
Examples:
"with all of the words:" techniques cosmetic dentistry
"with the exact phrase": lasers in dentistry
"with at least one of the words": dental dentist dentistry
"without the words": veterinary animal animals veterinarian
10. Click "Search Scholar."
11. If "Is it at CSTCC library" is by the title of the article, it may be
full-text in a library database or in paper in the library. Click "Is it
at CSTCC library" to find out.
12. If "Is it at CSTCC library" is below the article citation, you will
probably need to request it through Interlibrary Loan
