A. Professional Journal Articles

Use this library database to find full-text articles from early childhood and/or education journals:

MasterFile Premier  (You will need current passwords for off-campus access.)

For question #1, suggested searches are:

• "early childhood education" and math*(note: quotation marks find a phrase; asterisks replace letters)

• "early childhood educators" and science

• math* and preschool and child development

For question #2, suggested searches are:

• "early childhood education" and math* and activit* 

• "early childhood education" and science and activit*

Note:  Remember to try synonyms such as preschool, kindergarten, "head start"
            Other words to try are games, "lesson planning," "educational games," counting, sorting, classifying

B.  Education resources from journals and books, as well as theses and dissertations, and other education resources:

ERIC

Use the Advanced Search, which will allow you to:

• Combine terms in the search boxes (ex. early childhood education AND science AND activit*)

• Select full-text only to view and/or print the entire article

• Use the Publication Date to narrow your number of results or to find current information

• Choose publication types--check these:  journal articles, books, guides-classroom-learner, guides-classroom-teacher

• Choose the education level--check these:  early childhood education, kindergarten, preschool education

C.  Professional Organizations

1.  National Association for the Education of Young Children

        Click on the Publications link to search past issues of Young Children (their award winning peer reviewed journal published bi-monthly)

           Request articles that you need--dates from 2001 to the present only by emailing Tisa Houck at the address that was given during class.  Copies from the paper issues that we own will be emailed to you from the main campus library within one-two business days.    

2.  Southern Early Childhood Association

     Search past issues of Dimensions of Early Childhood (their journal which supports high-quality experiences for young children, their families,
                                                                                                                       and educators by advancing the best practices in, and knowledge base of, early childhood education.)

        Request articles that you need by emailing Tisa Houck at the address that was given during class.  Copies will be emailed to you from the main campus library when we receive copies of the articles from a lending library.  This may take 1-2 weeks. 

D.  Trusted Websites

  Advanced Google Search   -- Retrieve more reliable websites by limiting your results to educational sites with .edu in the domain.
