Assignment:  Students will prepare a presentation on a controversial issue of their choosing.  Three sources are required, but Internet sites are not allowed for this report. 


 

        Note:  Phrase your topic as a question that will require you to argue both sides of an issue and make a decision based on your research, for example:

 

Use these resources to find information to support your arguments.
           
(You will need the current passwords to access electronic databases from off-campus.)
     

 

      Points of View Reference Center
                                   (magazine and newspaper articles, books, primary sources, as well as writing help. 

  • Browse topics by category OR View all specific topics OR type in your topic and combine keywords with AND
  • The Points of View tab includes Overviews of each topic.  Look for "Guide to Critical Analysis."  
  • Use the "How to..." column for writing assistance.

 

 

 

 

   Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center (essays, statistics, magazines, newspapers, websites)

  Search Tips:

  • Select a topic from the list provided, OR

  • Type in your topic in the search bar ( you may combine terms with and), then select Subject, Keyword, or Full text;

  • Choose from sources provided in a variety of categories.

  • The REFERENCE tab will provide Overviews of important questions related to your topic.

  • The VIEWPOINTS tab will provide the pro and con arguments or controversies.
