How Do I Find a Tennessee Court Case
in West's Tennessee Digest?

Remember to check for pockets parts in each volume of the digest.
1. Use the Descriptive Word Index. Search automobile accident about negligence of an unlicensed driver. Also notice that each volume of the Tennessee Digest has a preface that includes abbreviations of courts and digest topics.

2. See subhead Negligent entrustment under Automobile Accidents.

3. Under the subheadings "Negligent entrustment"
and "unlicensed driver, entrustment to," there are key numbers given for the
Autos topic. Pull the "Automobiles" topic volume and search each key
number starting with 192(11).
4. Read through the digest of the cases to find the best match to the case under
consideration. Choose a case to look up, for example the first one, 539
S.W.2d 31. Pull volume 539 of South Western Reporter 2d.

5. Look on page 31 for the start of the text of the Beckendorf v. Simmons case.

6. Words and Phrases

7. Look up "negligence"
