How Do I Find a U.S. Supreme Court Brief
Using LexisNexis Academic?
Summary of Important Points
Briefs are available from 1979 to date.
All U.S. Supreme Court cases can be found by selecting the drop down arrow
beside the Sources box and highlighting U.S. Supreme Court cases.
Select LexisNexis Academic from the Library web page at http://library.chattanoogastate.edu.
Select the Legal tab.
Click on Federal & State Cases.
Select the drop down arrow beside the Sources box and highlight U.S.
Supreme Court Briefs.
Clicking on the i for information will let us know that briefs are
available from 1979 to current.
Let's find a Brief for the Respondent in the Fitz Randolph case.
In the Terms and Connectors box, type: (Fitz
Randolph) and (Brief for the Respondent) and then click search.
Select Tips for using search connectors to see the different connectors.
Capitalization does not matter. Terms inside the parenthesis are searched
first before combining with the and connector.
Saving, Printing, Emailing
Notice the print, emailing, saving icons on the upper right. It is helpful
to save text in electronic format for ease of quoting.
