Sandy Kluttz, dean of student life and judicial affairs, began this program.  It "provides students with a two-year scholarship to Oxford University in England."

"It is official.  Governor Phil Bredesen signed two bills into law over the summer.  One bill officially sets up a lottery in Tennessee and the other bill details how lottery-funded scholarships will be distributed."

Dr. Elaine Swafford established the AHEAD Program.  "This program started on Aug. 5, 2002, at Chattanooga State."  It helps "students overcome barriers that are far greater than the average student faces on a daily basis."

Permission Statement 

The Chattanooga Times Free Press has given Chattanooga State Community College, Augusta R. Kolwyck Library, permission to scan and post newspaper articles on its Web page.  Permission was provided to the library by Bob Lutgen, Managing Editor of Operations, Chattanooga Times Free Press on April 17, 2006, and extended August 1, 2006, and August 13, 2008.
